Warcraft 2 is the continuation of the ruthless clash between the armies of the noble Humans and the brutish Orcs. From the initial, unexpected invasion of the Orcish Horde to the quest of the Great Alliance to forever seal the Dark Portal that links their two worlds, you will experience the epic saga of the mighty battle to gain dominance over the kingdom of Azeroth. Along the way you'll need to carefully manage your limited resources to successfully construct and rule your medieval empire while engaging in real-time tactical warfare over land, sea and air.

I am having trouble getting it to work
Damnit!!! My laptop wont let me type back slashes! Only / WTF?!
OK, bummer. Looks like you posted this two years ago man...
Well, I got it to work, but of course it just pops an error if you try to start WAR2.EXE.
Even if you use "Compaitibility Mode", it doesn't go, right?
OK, so you need to emulate a DOS environment for the game to run in. This means DOSBOX.
You can get DOSBOX for free here: www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1
After you get dosbox in its own little folder. You can mess with the conf files until you have it so you can type one command to get it running....but that takes a bit of extra knowledge.
To keep it simple you can try the following:
1)Unzip the warcraft2_full.rar file into a folder somewhere EASY to access, Like into C:\WAR2
2)Deploy DOSBOX (Wherever. I have mine in Program Files (x86)
3)Run DOSBOX (There's a LOT of configuration that can be done here, but the default setting run MOST things ok, with a few annoyances here and there. That's how WAR2 runs.)
4)At the prompt type "mount c C:\WAR2" (without quotes and hit Enter)
5)Then type and enter "C:" (without quotes)
6)Then type and enter "CD WAR2" (without quotes)
7)Then type and enter "WAR2" or "WAR2.EXE" (without quotes!)
8)PARTY ON!!!
Ok, so this should get is basically working. Someone who knows DOSBOX or retro game emulation can certainly add more, especially how to tune it so that the map doesn't scroll a million miles an hour, or many other things you can do to get the game more precisely the way it used to be. But this should work)
If this worked for you, PLEASE reply and let me know it did. Thanks!
